Mansfield, Connecticut

Mansfield takes credit for a couple of things, one of which being its reputation as one of the safest places in America. More importantly, the area is one of the most serene environments for older people to spend their later years.

Named after Major Moses Mansfield, the city also takes credit for establishing the country’s first silk mill. While all that’s left of it is the foundation, locals have since made an effort to preserve other historical landmarks. Besides these significant places, however, the city has also sheltered more than a few notable figures through the years. Moreover, this includes Peter Tork, best known as a member of The Monkees, Rivers Cuomo of the rock band Weezer, and Samuel Pickering. Along with being an academic, the latter was also the inspiration for one of the film’s most iconic on-screen personas. That character is none other than Dead Poet Society’s John Keating, beautifully portrayed by Robin Williams.
